Our KM series worm gear motors, featuring a worm and wheel configuration, are constructed from an injected aluminum casing. The cubic gearbox design of our worm gear motor allows for adaptability from any of its three machined sides.

As the monobloc design inherently supports the forces exerted between the worm and the wheel, the durability of the entire gearbox is assured. This is why we maintain stringent rigidity standards for our worm gear motor, even though the service factor is relatively lower compared to cast iron gears.

Structural features

 

The worm gear motor consists of three essential components: housing, worm, and wheel.

All frame sizes feature housings made from injected aluminum, providing this series with optimal performance for applications requiring low torque, alongside efficiency comparable to cast-iron products.

The worm is crafted from case-hardened quenched steel with ground teeth sides, and the wheel is constructed from centricast bronze (DIN GZ-CuSn 12 Ni2) melted onto steel. The quality of these mechanical components ensures exceptional performance and low noise levels.

This product is supplied with a hollow shaft and is also available with a cylindrical output shaft.

Additionally, it includes NITRILE-BUTADIENE rubber ring seals in accordance with DIN 3760, high-quality bearings, and an aluminum finish, positioning this worm gear motor as a top choice in the gears market.

 

Assembly position

 

To properly install a worm gear motor and achieve efficient operation, the following guidelines should be adhered to:

  • Ensure that the motor is mounted on a flat surface to avoid vibrations or unwanted tension.
  • In scenarios where there are uneven loads or frequent startups, it is recommended to include compensating couplings, connectors, and torque limiters.
  • If there is a need to paint the worm gear motor, make sure to cover the oil seals to prevent drying and maintain their integrity.
  • The fittings on the output shafts require machining with an ISO H7 or h6 tolerance for hollow shafts.

 

Backdriving

 

It is important to consider this factor when the gear reducer's output shaft is driven instead of serving as the driver. One key attribute of this worm gear motor is that it cannot be axle-driven from the output shaft (irreversibility). Achieving total irreversibility is virtually unattainable due to external influences like vibrations and similar issues. Therefore, when the application requires full irreversibility, it is wise to employ external brakes with adequate power to prevent slipping.

The conditions that can result in irreversibility are:

• Output < 0.55 (refer to the technical characteristics table).

 

Maintenance

This specific type of gear reducer incorporates a permanent lubrication mechanism, ensuring that no maintenance is necessary.

 

 Lubrication

 

The lubrication system of the worm gear motor is continuous and comes as a standard feature, utilizing high-quality refined oil. This oil includes anti-rust and anti-wear components with Fe, Cu, and alloy protectors, meeting the requirements of CLP DIN 51517-3, FGZ level 12, AP GL-4, US 224, and AGMA 250-04 standards. Thus, it does not require any maintenance.
